Maharaja Ratan Singh
(1768–1769)

The ruler of Bharatpur (1768–1769), son of Maharaja Jawahar Singh. His reign was short, but he carried forward the legacy of the Jaats before his untimely demise.

Maharaja Jawahar Singh of Bharatpur

Maharaja Jawahar Singh (1763–1768), son of the legendary Suraj Mal, ruled Bharatpur for a brief but eventful period. After his father’s death, he worked to uphold the kingdom’s strength and independence during a time of regional instability. Known for his bravery and ambition, Jawahar Singh led campaigns around Delhi and Agra, continuing the Jat assertion of power against the Mughals and neighboring states.

One of his most lasting contributions was the construction of the Jawahar Bagh in Bharatpur, a beautiful garden-palace complex that reflected his interest in architecture and culture. He also improved forts and palaces, ensuring Bharatpur’s prestige.

Although his reign lasted only five years, Jawahar Singh is remembered as a ruler who carried forward Suraj Mal’s legacy of valor, pride, and cultural identity, leaving behind monuments and memories that highlight the glory of the Bharatpur Jats.

Bharatpur – The Eastern Gateway of Rajasthan

Bharatpur, often called the “Eastern Gateway of Rajasthan,” is a city rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Founded in the early 18th century by Maharaja Badan Singh, it later rose to prominence under Maharaja Suraj Mal, who expanded the Jat kingdom into a powerful state. The city is especially famous for the Lohagarh Fort, known as the “Iron Fort,” which withstood several British attacks and became a symbol of Jat pride and resilience.

Apart from its royal legacy, Bharatpur is also globally renowned for the Keoladeo National Park (Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary), a UNESCO World Heritage Site that attracts thousands of migratory birds each year, including the Siberian crane.

Today, Bharatpur reflects a blend of valor, heritage, and nature. Its forts, palaces, and cultural traditions showcase the glorious past of the Jats, while its natural wonders make it a destination of global importance.
